Musical Fidelity M5xi: High-End Dual Mono Integrated Amplifier with 160 W per Channel
The Musical Fidelity M5xi is a High-End integrated amplifier engineered to deliver an exceptional combination of power, refinement, and musicality. Directly inheriting technologies and design solutions developed for Musical Fidelity’s legendary TITAN amplifier, the new M5xi represents a major evolution over the successful M5si, featuring a completely redesigned architecture, modern connectivity, and an even more transparent and controlled sound performance.
Thanks to its advanced dual-mono topology, the M5xi internally operates as a separate preamplifier combined with two independent monophonic power amplifier stages housed within a single chassis. This configuration significantly improves channel separation, soundstage stability, and dynamic capability, delivering an exceptionally precise and natural sound reproduction.
The power amplification stage utilizes a sophisticated low-distortion Darlington output configuration derived directly from the Musical Fidelity TITAN design. The result is a powerful, fluid, and perfectly controlled sound capable of driving even highly demanding loudspeakers with authority. The M5xi delivers 160 W per channel into 8 ohms and 240 W per channel into 4 ohms, providing enormous current delivery and exceptional dynamic headroom.
The preamplifier section has been completely redesigned to minimize noise and distortion while preserving the microdetail and harmonic richness of the original recording. In addition, volume control is handled by a highly precise Burr-Brown stepped attenuator, far more accurate than conventional potentiometers, ensuring perfectly balanced stereo imaging and excellent tonal precision at any listening level.
The new Musical Fidelity M5xi also incorporates a fully redesigned and optimized MM/MC phono stage. Its improved circuitry, combined with enhanced shielding and a carefully engineered internal layout, significantly reduces electromagnetic interference and noise, allowing vinyl playback with greater transparency, dynamics, and naturalness.
On the digital side, the M5xi takes a major generational leap by incorporating HDMI eARC, optical and coaxial digital inputs, as well as a USB-C input supporting high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/192 kHz. This allows seamless integration into both modern HiFi systems and high-end Home Cinema installations.
The HDMI eARC input enables direct TV connection, allowing users to fully benefit from the M5xi’s powerful analog amplification when watching films, series, or live concerts, while maintaining an intuitive and practical user experience.
Another particularly interesting feature is the new isolated linear 5V/2A USB-A output, specifically designed to power streamers and network music players with a cleaner and more stable power supply, significantly improving their sonic performance.
For advanced installations and automation systems, the M5xi also includes RS232 connectivity, an HT Bypass input for multichannel integration, and preamplifier outputs for bi-amplification or active subwoofer connection.
Construction quality remains at the extremely high standards expected from Musical Fidelity, featuring a robust metal chassis that acts as electromagnetic shielding and an elegant front panel machined from solid extruded aluminum, ensuring both excellent structural rigidity and superior resistance to vibrations and interference.
