Rega Research raises the bar for moving magnet cartridges with the ND9 a model developed from technologies first seen in its legendary moving coil designs ND9 is created with a very clear goal to extract the maximum possible information from the groove with the naturalness speed and precision that define the Rega sound.
To achieve this the design team has incorporated a solid boron rod cantilever combined with a Fine Line nude diamond stylus profile a solution taken directly from the reference Aphelion 2 cartridge Boron offers exceptional rigidity with extremely low mass allowing an ultra fast response to the microscopic changes in the vinyl and an extraordinarily accurate reproduction.
Every ND9 is entirely hand built by skilled technicians Its single crystal nude Fine Line diamond features extremely small radii only 3 microns on the horizontal axis and 30 microns on the vertical which reduces the contact area and allows it to follow even the most complex groove modulations with great precision The result is outstanding micro detail retrieval a wider soundstage and a particularly impressive sense of realism in vocals strings and harmonic textures.
The new internal generator has been designed with a completely symmetrical geometry in order to guarantee very precise channel balance Optimised polar separation improves linearity and reduces crosstalk expanding the soundstage compared with previous generations The miniaturised parallel coils wound in house with ultra fine 38 micron wire and only 1275 turns create a low inductance low impedance generator which translates into a more open clean and natural high frequency response.
The N55 neodymium magnet the most powerful currently available for this application provides exceptional control of stylus movement and greater efficiency than classic bar magnet designs The entire assembly is housed in a glass filled PPS body moulded by injection to zero tolerance This material is light and extremely rigid reducing the load on the tonearm bearings and supporting free stable tracking.
ND9 also features Rega three point fixing optimised for the brands tonearms and is available as a factory fitted option on the Planar 8 turntable In line with Rega environmental commitment the ND range is supplied in 100 percent recyclable packaging and comes with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects together with the renowned Rega rebuild scheme which allows the cartridge to be renewed at reduced cost when the stylus wears out.
