PRO-JECT CD Box RS2 Tube: High-end CD player with fully balanced tube output

The CD Box RS2 Tube is Pro-Ject’s most ambitious “tube” CD player within the RS2 high-end line. It retains the premium RS2 aluminium chassis and styling, but adds a key element: a fully balanced tube output stage, designed to give digital playback a more organic, fluid and musical character.

It’s also the first CD player in Pro-Ject’s RS range to include an internal DAC, using the well-regarded Texas Instruments PCM1796 in a fully differential configuration to feed the balanced tube stage.

What makes it special?

Fully balanced tube output (2 × E88CC)

At the heart of the RS2 Tube is a fully balanced tube buffer built around two premium E88CC valves. The goal is clear: add warmth, harmonic texture and flow without losing definition—resulting in a more natural, emotionally engaging listen, especially with vocals and acoustic instruments.

High-end top-loading mechanism + Red Book compliance

It uses the SUOS DM-3381 Red Book CD drive, built around a robust, low-vibration mechanism to improve stability, reduce external noise and enhance long-term reliability. The top-loading format with an aluminium cover and magnetic puck further supports accurate, stable disc reading.

TI PCM1796 DAC in differential mode

The PCM1796 operates in a fully differential configuration to maximize dynamics and minimize noise, and it’s engineered to integrate ideally with the balanced tube output stage.

Convenient control + full display

Operation is via the front-panel buttons or the included aluminium IR remote. The LCD display shows time, track info and CD-Text (artist/title) when available.
