The Wharfedale DENTON 1S represents a modern reinterpretation of the legendary Heritage concept from the renowned British brand. These compact loudspeakers combine the classic aesthetic charm of the DENTON series with advanced acoustic engineering, delivering a surprisingly expansive, natural, and immersive sound for their size. Inspired by the innovative spirit of the original DENTON from 1967 and the iconic DENTON 1 introduced in 1974, the new DENTON 1S revives the philosophy of creating a compact loudspeaker capable of delivering a true High Fidelity listening experience, now adapted to modern spaces and contemporary lifestyles.
Far from being a simple reissue, the DENTON 1S incorporates a specially developed coaxial point-source architecture designed to achieve exceptional sonic coherence. Its advanced two-way system combines a 25 mm silk dome tweeter positioned concentrically within a 165 mm enhanced polypropylene mid/bass driver. Thanks to this coaxial arrangement, both drivers behave as a single acoustic source, improving time alignment, phase coherence, and stereo image stability.
The result is an extraordinarily cohesive sound presentation, with precise vocals, perfectly focused instruments, and a wide, three-dimensional soundstage even outside the optimal listening position. The DENTON 1S delivers a smooth, natural, and highly balanced performance while preserving the unmistakable musicality that characterizes Wharfedale loudspeakers.
The acoustic development has been led by Peter Comeau, Wharfedale’s Director of Acoustic Design, with particular attention given to crossover integration to ensure both drivers operate as a completely unified system. As a result, the sound flows with remarkable naturalness and tonal continuity, maintaining a high level of detail and dynamics without listening fatigue.
Despite their compact dimensions, the Wharfedale DENTON 1S impresses with its low-frequency capabilities. Its optimized 11.5-liter bass reflex enclosure allows for deep, warm, and controlled bass response, extending down to 45 Hz (-6 dB). The enhanced polypropylene cone also provides excellent transient response and minimal coloration through the midrange, resulting in a fast, articulate, and highly musical sound character.
The silk dome tweeter features a damped rear chamber and a high-flux magnetic system that ensures smooth, detailed, and perfectly integrated treble performance across the entire frequency spectrum.
Thanks to their 88 dB sensitivity and nominal 8-ohm impedance, the DENTON 1S can be easily partnered with a wide range of amplifiers, from classic electronics to modern integrated amplifiers and compact streaming systems.
Another major advantage of the DENTON 1S is its installation versatility. They have been designed for use on stands, bookshelves, or wall mounting, incorporating a discreet rear mounting point. In addition, they include a practical “Brilliance” selector that allows slight tonal adjustment depending on speaker placement and room acoustics.
Aesthetically, the DENTON 1S reinterprets Wharfedale tradition with a contemporary and elegant design. Their soft lines, classic fabric grille, and premium matte finishes — available in black, white, and blue — allow them to integrate beautifully into modern interiors while maintaining the timeless identity of the DENTON series.
The cabinet construction also reflects Wharfedale’s high engineering standards, using multilayer panels, internal bracing, and carefully optimized damping to minimize unwanted resonances and coloration.
