AudioQuest has built a good reputation as a manufacturer of exceptional analog video cables. However, the arrival of HDMI in 2004 presented a number of design challenges that needed to be resolved. In order for AudioQuest to maximize picture and sound performance over HDMI, new materials and higher levels of manufacturing precision were employed to handle the high-speed, high-bandwidth signals of HDMI.

While the basic plan for the HDMI cable construction was established by the HDMI steering committee (HDMI, LLC), AudioQuest investigated areas that could be optimized within the established framework. Over the years, several of the design elements of analog video and audio have proven to be important in the design of HDMI cables. Solid core conductors, conductor metallurgy, insulating materials (dielectrics), and overall precision have been carefully optimized to create a superior line of HDMI cables.

As part of AudioQuest's reexamination of HDMI cable design, special attention was paid to maximizing sound performance on HDMI. In fact, AQ HDMI cables take sonic performance to new levels. AudioQuest starts with LGC (long-grain copper) and adds increasing amounts of silver bath, the culmination being the Diamond HDMI, whose 5 main signal pairs are made of solid silver (PSS). AQ listens to each main signal conductor in each HDMI cable to determine the proper orientation of the conductors. Solid polyethylene insulation ensures stable conductor geometry while minimizing insulation-induced phase distortion. At the top of the range,

HDMI standards and capabilities have improved significantly since DVI was developed and converted to HDMI. All previous generations are supported. However, not all legacy HDMI cables can carry the 18Gbps information needed to optimize today's HDMI 2.0 equipment. While currently no 4K / 60 4: 4: 4 software requires full 18Gbps support, some sources (UHD Blu-ray players) can oversample, so they would. Oversampling should often be done on the TV and not on a precomponent ... but this is up to you). The most important thing is to know and understand that all HDMI AudioQuest cables up to 8 meters are guaranteed to exceed the requirements for the transmission of any HDMI 2.0 / HDCP 2.2 information, including 4K UltraHD,

About HDMI 2.0

The Forest HDMI model represents AudioQuest's leading philosophies in cable design. It employs strong long-grain copper conductors, high-density polyethylene insulation, and precise geometry. In their design, particular attention has been paid to maximizing HDMI performance, and in fact, AudioQuest HDMI cables take their performance to new levels.

SOLID CONDUCTORS WITH 0.5% SILVER

Solid conductors eliminate distortion from inter-filament interaction and reduce jitter. Solid silver-plated conductors are excellent for very high frequency applications such as HDMI video and audio. These signals, being of such a high frequency, travel almost exclusively on the surface of the conductor. Since the surface is made of high-purity silver, the performance is very similar to that of a solid silver wire, but its price is closer to that of a solid copper wire. This is a really inexpensive way to make super high quality HDMI cables.

POLYETHYLENE FOAM INSULATION - Any solid material next to the conductor becomes part of an imperfect circuit. The insulation materials of the cable and the circuitry absorb energy (= losses). Some of this energy is stored and becomes distortion. The Forest HDMI model uses air-filled polyethylene foam insulation because it absorbs virtually no energy and polyethylene exhibits very low losses and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to the air found in the insulation, the out-of-focus effect common to other materials occurs to a much lesser extent.

HIGH SPEED DATA TRANSMISSION CAPABILITY: HDMI standards and capabilities have improved significantly since DVI was developed and converted to HDMI. The most important thing to know and understand is that all HDMI AudioQuest cables up to 8 meters are guaranteed to exceed the requirements for the transmission of any HDMI 2.0 / HDCP 2.2 information, including 4K UltraHD, HDR and Ultra HD Blu-ray. In addition, the Forest model makes use of active frequency equalization to allow the transmission of 18Gbps / 4K Ultra HD up to measures from 10 to 15 meters.

ETHERNET AND AUDIO RETURN CHANNEL:

All AudioQuest HDMI cables up to 10m are classified as High Speed With Ethernet. From 12 to 20m, they are Standard Speed with Ethernet.

DIRECTIONALITY: All audio cables are directional. The correct direction is determined by listening to each batch of metal conductors used in each AudioQuest audio cable. All signal leads are controlled for the digital audio direction in AudioQuest HDMI cables and care is even taken to place the leads used in the audio return channel in the opposite direction, thus ensuring the best performance in that direction. use. On the connectors you will clearly see the arrows that ensure superior sound quality.

HDMI ACTIVE: Active Frequency Equalization enables 18Gbps transmission over long runs.
