EAR HP4. Headphone Tube Preamplifier.
Tim de Paravicini has achieved worldwide reputation in the design of valves and amplifiers. In this model he has applied his experience to produce one of the best headphone amplifiers in the world.
The HP4 uses four 6SL7 valves, suitably tuned to Paravicini's renowned Tim transformers, to deliver around 1W of high quality and low distortion power to its four outputs for high or low impedance headphones. The output circuit configuration is Paravicini's "Enhanced Triode Mode" type, also used in the successful integrated amplifiers V20 and 869. The input is also coupled to transformers giving the flexibility of accepting balanced or unbalanced signals from the preamplifier.
For convenience, the HP4 has its own volume control, while the input signal can be switched independently through the amplifier to listen to headphones and / or speakers.
