AUDIOQUEST Redwood.

The addition of silver offers a significant improvement in ease and resolution.

PERFECT SILVER SOLID SURFACE COPPER+/PERFECT-SURFACE CONDUCTORS (PSC+/PSS): Redwood uses a careful combination of Perfect-Surface Copper+ and Perfect-Surface Silver ultra-high purity surface copper conductors in a HyperLitz system counter-spiral self-shielding. Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, which is the largest source of distortion in an audio cable or AC power cable. Surface quality is critical because a conductor can be considered a guide rail for both electric fields within a conductor and magnetic fields outside the conductor. Perfect-Surface's surprisingly smooth and pure surface eliminates harshness and greatly increases clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other types of copper. The very high purity PSS further minimizes distortion caused by grain boundaries, which exist within any metallic conductor.

MULTI-LAYER CARBON-BASED NOISE DISSIPATION SYSTEM and CROSS-DISSULATION: Redwood's negative conductors are insulated with partially carbon-conductive polyethylene. This extraordinary material dampens the radio frequency garbage that is returned to the amplifier. The sonic benefit is the exact same reduction in "hash" and better dimensionality that comes when RF garbage is reduced in an audio circuit. Redwood uses nitrogen-injected foamed polyethylene insulators on its positive conductors because air absorbs almost no energy, and polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in the foamed PE, it causes much less of the blurring effect common to other materials.

DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1): All insulation slows down the signal on the inner conductor. When the isolation is not biased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest's DBS creates a strong and stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both the energy storage in the insulation and the multiple non-linear time delays that occur. The sound emerges from a startlingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. DBS battery packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for occasional battery checks.

DOUBLE SPIRAL COUNTER GEOMETRY: Redwood and the other AQ "Tree Feature" cables have an internal circular arrangement of positive conductors spiraled in one direction. Surrounding this inner group are the negative leads, which spiral in the opposite direction. Even though the positive and negative conductors cross each other instead of being parallel, the relationship between the positive and negative groups is fixed and unchanging, adhering to one of AudioQuest's most basic design principles: consistency. The result is amazing clarity, like bringing a camera lens into focus that you had no idea was so out of focus.

SPREAD-SPECTRUM TECHNOLOGY (SST): Any size or shape of conductor has a specific distortion profile. Although radially symmetrical (solid round or tubular) conductors have the fewest discontinuities, any conductor of a particular size has a sonic signature. SST uses a precise combination of different size conductors to significantly reduce the audibility of these characteristic defects. The different sizes of SST conductors used in Redwood allow for an exceptionally clear, clean and dynamic sound.

WIRING: Where possible, running separate conductors or separate cables to the high and low halves of a loudspeaker will greatly reduce distortion. BiWiring reduces distortion by keeping the large magnetic fields caused by bass energy out of the tweeter cable, allowing these delicate upper frequencies to travel along a less disturbed path. Although Redwood is an ideal full-range cable, it can also be used as a dual pair for maximum BiWiring benefit. Redwood has also been designed to make the use of Single BiWire possible. The five conductors per polarity have been chosen and arranged so that they can be divided into two groups, allowing Redwood to be prepared with four connections at the speaker end.

TERMINATIONS: AudioQuest offers a wide range of high-quality connectors that allow Redwood to be firmly connected to any type of equipment. The quality is in the low distortion sound, not necessarily in the eye effect. The ends of the AQ are dull gold or silver in appearance, as these metals are plated directly onto the connector. There is no shiny, scratchy nickel layer underneath. AQ PK Spade Pliers are smooth because better metal is soft and makes for a higher quality connection. For parts that require a banana plug or BFA connector, the AQ PK-BFA/Banana offers unprecedented performance compared to conventional brass versions.

APPLICATION: ABS breaks at each end of Redwood are marked "Speaker End" or "Amp End". Use cables in the desired direction.
