Technology and Craftsmanship.

The streaming section of the ND5 XS 2 uses Naim's latest network card with high speed low noise low voltage differential signalling (LVDS) for digital audio signal routing. The higher speed is capable of decoding all HD audio formats up to 32-bit/384 kHz or DSD128. Instead of the source acting as a digital timing master, our new streaming card switches things up and allows our DAC clock to control the audio data stream. The data is oversampled integer in a SHARC DSP with incredible 40-bit precision before being fed to the PCM1791A Burr-Brown digital-to-analogue converter.

The development of a new streaming platform was one of the most ambitious projects we have undertaken. Naim engineers in all areas - electronics, industrial, acoustics and mechanics - worked for three years to create a system that could take full advantage of online services such as TIDAL and Spotify, while adding future-proof flexibility through integrated Chromecast. Supporting faster data speeds with dual-band Wi-Fi and the latest 802.11ac protocol, this robust platform has been designed to deliver maximum performance at every level.
