In recent times, the Austrian company Pro-Ject Audio Systems has been manufacturing some of the world's most prominent high-end "microamplifiers", such as the MaiA S2 or the Stereo Box S2. It is with the aim of expanding the expectations of these amplifiers that the innovative Central European brand has recently developed a customised "streaming player" that enhances both the audio quality and the design of the amplifiers. The Stream Box S2, as this convenient new digital device from Pro-Ject is called, harnesses the power of a dedicated app to manage a wide range of settings, including the ability to operate in multiple rooms. It provides support for high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/192 kHz, as well as allowing the connection of multiple units to establish a multi-room system, in which case the quality drops to that provided by a CD (16-bit/44 kHz), a remarkable achievement for such an affordable product in a configuration that can handle large volumes of data. The maximum number of possible zones is limited to 10 or 6, depending on whether Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection is used, respectively, in order to ensure error-free transmission given the high bit rate handled.
