WILSON AUDIO Alida. Compact reference monitor for High Fidelity and Home Cinema systems.
The Alida is the latest product of the prestigious "Special Applications" division of the legendary American firm, specialising in the pursuit of maximum sonic excellence in loudspeakers designed to work in environments that are a priori unsuitable for the perfect reproduction of music. Specifically designed to work in close proximity or against a wall, the Alida aims to offer, in Wilson Audio's words, "the timbral neutrality, dynamic response, soundstage depth and transparency" of the US firm's columns, but in extremely adverse conditions. With the Alida, the engineering team led by David Wilson tackled what is undoubtedly the biggest challenge in designing a high-performance wall-mounted loudspeaker: overcoming the complex interaction with the room's walls and ceiling, as well as the degradation caused by the mounting system used, which leads to non-linearities in the frequency domain. The solution to minimise these resonant interactions with the floor/ceiling was to completely redesign the mounting system: the Alida is mounted on its stand using a novel mechanism constructed from aerospace-grade aluminium that drastically reduces these interactions and resonances. The result, together with two custom-built loudspeakers, a virtually colouration-free enclosure and a high-tech frequency divider filter, is an agile, transparent and precise loudspeaker that redefines the reference standard within its class.
