While most traditional designs focus primarily on the active circuitry, at YPSILON we firmly believe that volume control is the most critical component in the sonic performance of a preamplifier.
Many manufacturers rely on resistive attenuators; even using high-grade resistors such as Vishay, we found they imparted an undesirable character to the sound. This led us to develop a proprietary attenuation transformer, using specialized winding techniques and the highest purity core and conductor materials available. The result: a level of sonic transparency far beyond what any resistive attenuator can offer.
The PST-100 mk2 features a 31-step transformer-based attenuator, delivering a total attenuation of 54 dB at the lowest level, while maintaining exceptional magnetic linearity through the use of superior core materials. The outcome is a sound that is significantly more musical, natural, and richly detailed.
The active circuit of the PST-100 mk2 is built around a zero-feedback, single-ended design using the C3m tube in triode mode, transformer-coupled for optimal signal integrity. The power supply employs a 6CA4 tube rectifier and choke-filtering, ensuring clean and stable power delivery.
All internal wiring is done point-to-point, using custom-made pure silver wire. The transformer attenuator is placed after the tube gain stage, preserving sonic purity and microdetail with exceptional fidelity.

PST-100 TA: Transformer Attenuation, No Active Stage
For systems that do not require additional gain, the PST-100 TA offers the same high-end transformer-based attenuation, without the active tube stage. This version retains the same sonic excellence and can be fully upgraded to the complete PST-100 mk2 by sending the unit back to the factory.
