RAIDHO ACOUSTICS TD2.2
If you want the same performance as the TD1.2 in a floor-standing loudspeaker, you will have to pay a lot more. Because the same money would have to go to a bigger cabinet, more drivers and a more complex crossover. This means that the performance of the TD1.2 is really an outrage in this price class.
Raidho TD Driver
A truly unique and revolutionary drive unit! 100% developed and built in-house by Raidho. The goals were simple: no colouration and outstanding dynamic capabilities.
The motor consists of a very strong magnet (N52Neodymium) with a uniform and invisible magnetic field, together with a suspended titanium voice coil. This arrangement provides the drive unit with the world's most powerful suspended magnet system. The benefit of a suspended voice coil over the traditional suspended voice coil is that it is much more linear and has better dynamic capabilities. The result is a perfect transient response with no measurable distortion.
To further improve the strength of the magnet motor, they designed a new titanium voice coil using a square-shaped wire that eliminates air in the voice coil windings. This leaves no possibility for air gaps to interfere with the magnetic field. The entire magnetic system, as well as the basket itself, are turbine shaped which eliminates sound reflections that would otherwise taint the original sound. The solid copper on the inner pole piece very effectively minimises the inductance and linearises the impedance. The suspension parts are as soft as possible to ensure the least mechanical restriction to diaphragm movement.
Finally, a drive unit that can really keep up with the Raidho ribbon tweeter and make it all sound as one.
The legendary Raidho ribbon tweeter
The proprietary ribbon tweeter is a unique Raidho design. It is completely designed and hand-built in-house in Denmark. To be exact, it is a planar magnetic tweeter due to the tracks in the foil. The foil has a thickness of 11 microns, which means that it has a mass 50 times less compared to a conventional dome tweeter. This is due to the fact that there is no voice coil and the extremely low weight of the foil (20 milligrams). The result is that there is virtually no resonance or distortion, and the break-up point is at an incredible 82 KHz! What you hear is an incredibly clear and natural sound - all the detail in the world, but with no fatigue, no distortion and no colouration!
For the TD Series, Raidho looked at how the tweeter could be improved to match the new drivers. A redesign of the magnets, waveguide and rear panel to optimise airflow helped increase sensitivity by 3 dB and reduce already low distortion levels by 35 dB. This raised the performance level even further, making this world-class tweeter even better.
