ADVANCE PARIS X-P700. Dual mono preamplifier with Direct Path for high fidelity
The X-P700, successor to the X-P500, stands out for its technical refinements that are rare in this category. It features a dual mono design and Direct Path signal processing, which aims to maximise sound purity and fidelity.
It offers a choice of two output schemes: Class A mode, which employs double-cascaded bipolars in a tube-gradient-like dual-cascade assembly, and Discrete mode, based on a more conventional JFet differential and current-mirrored bipolar, Class AB-biased bipolar.
With a sleek, minimalist design, it features a single rotary control for accessing inputs, adjusting volume, bass/treble, balance and loudness. These functions can also be controlled remotely using the included remote control.
The X-P700 offers a wide variety of connectivity options: nine analogue inputs, one of which is balanced, as well as an MM/MC phono. On the digital side, there are two optical inputs, a coaxial input and a USB-B (Xmos) input, along with a USB-A input. A powerful 24-bit/192 kHz Burr Brown PCM 1796 converter is built in.
On the output side, it offers an RCA aligned with a balanced XLR, plus a high-pass output and two subwoofer outputs. Headphone enthusiasts will find two inputs on the front, with dual independent gain adjustment and selectable output impedance.
The X-P700's construction is robust and high quality, with a black perspex front panel and two high-capacity toroidal transformers feeding the dual filtered and regulated mono power supply. The adjustable MC and MM phono stage stands out for its excellent quality, which is hard to beat in this price range.
