If you examine closely, you will notice that the arm tube has a conical shape, which indicates that its diameter is tapered towards the cartridge and the head. This design prevents the formation of standing wave reflections. The boom tube is secured by a single screw for easy azimuth adjustment. The internal wiring consists of flexible, high-purity copper, an excellent conductor for low-level phono signals. Each cable is equipped with a gold-plated cartridge connector.

Arm bearing: The arm rotates on an ABEC 7 quality reversed cardanic bearing with 4 stainless steel pins. This type of bearing is highly stable and has minimal friction, ensuring precise tracking. This results in a detailed and expansive soundstage, preserving all the micro-information of the disc's rhythm. The bearing is housed in an all-aluminium casing that provides the necessary stability. The outer ring of the gimbal is open to avoid resonances in bell mode. Given the design of the arm, the bearing requires no maintenance, but is easy to adjust if necessary.

Tracking force and VTA adjustment: We supply two counterweights with each arm to offer wide compatibility with cartridges right out of the box. These counterweights are damped with TPE, which significantly aids in resonance control. Always use the counterweight that can be positioned closest to the pivot point with the desired tracking force applied, ensuring maximum stability and keeping the inertia of the arm as low as possible.

The height of the arm can be continuously adjusted by loosening and tightening the two grub screws on the armrest. This allows the arm to be perfectly adjusted according to VTA requirements. Experimenting with VTA and azimuth is crucial to extracting the maximum performance from your phono capsules.

Overview of Pro-Ject's arm design philosophy: The arm is one of the most important parts of a turntable and can have a big impact on the overall sound quality. That's why we have conducted extensive listening tests with various types of bearings, arm materials and cartridge combinations to achieve the desired sound quality. The EVO and EVO Premium range of arms is the result of our work, with new finishes and additional improvements.

Considerations for cartridge resonance frequency: When choosing a cartridge for your turntable, it is important to consider the overall effective mass of the arm in relation to the mechanical elasticity of the cartridge cantilever system. A resonance frequency between 7 and 12 Hz is optimal for any arm/cartridge system.

Overview of turntable and arm compatibility: Compatibility between Pro-Ject turntables and EVO arms is straightforward. If your current or future turntable has a 9″ arm, any of the 9″ variants will work perfectly. EVO arms are mounted according to the Linn standard and are shipped with mounting templates for DIYers who can do the advanced work required to properly install an arm on an external stand.
