The third model, in increasing order of demand, in the new family of power conditioners from Musical Fidelity is an impressive device that leverages the vast experience of the renowned British firm in the design and manufacturing of high-quality audio components, further enhancing their performance. This model is meticulously designed to adapt to the power consumption of connected equipment, offering protection against surges by blocking continuous signals up to 2 V, in addition to overvoltage, undervoltage, and overload protection.
Practically, the BPC10 features 6 power outlets and 3 output zones, allowing the user to isolate different types of devices. It is especially designed to handle a wide variety of analog and digital sources, as well as high-output amplifiers. The key component of the BPC10 is its impressive toroidal transformer, shielded, carefully constructed, ultra-quiet, and balanced, with a combined peak power of 2,400 VA/10 A.
Toroidal Transformer
The efficiency of toroidal transformers lies in their core, which is composed of a continuous strip of grain-oriented silicon steel, wound under tension like a clock spring. Unlike standard EI transformers, they have no air gap, achieving a stacking factor of 95% of their weight. Toroidal transformers typically have an efficiency of 90%, meaning that 90% of the input power is converted into output power, while only 10% is dissipated as heat, electromagnetic radiation, and mechanical vibration. This results in magnetic radiation of approximately one-tenth that emitted by EI transformers. Additionally, thanks to common-mode rejection (CMR), noise is reduced, resulting in cleaner power.
Surge Protection
Musical Fidelity's BPC power conditioners protect connected equipment through innovative series mode surge suppression, which also maintains clean power. Unlike shunt mode surge suppression circuits, which divert surges to ground (potentially increasing ground voltage and contaminating audio and video signals), our design absorbs surges of more than 2V above the maximum line voltage, thus preventing ground contamination.
Overload Protection and Input Voltage Detection
When the device detects an overload, the "Fuse-less Circuit Breaker" activates the protection mode. To reset the device, simply press the "fuse-less circuit breaker" and ensure the system is not overloaded. All BPC units are equipped with under-voltage protection (UVP) and over-voltage protection (OVP). The LEDs on the front panel indicate operating status: green means the device is operating normally, and red indicates that the input voltage should be checked.
