THEVA: FOCAL'S NEW LOUDSPEAKER LINE-UP FOR YOUR FIRST FORAY INTO PURE HI-FI SOUND
Focal introduces Theva, a line of affordable hi-fi loudspeakers. Renowned for its savoir-faire in sound, the French brand has taken the iconic features of the Chora loudspeakers and gone even further to create Theva. This price class-leading line includes six models to cover all Hi-Fi and Home Cinema uses, with exceptional performance, style and design.
One line, with six speakers
Focal offers a complete line-up. Theva N°1 is the compact monitor speaker; Theva N°2 the new 3-way column speaker with an ultra-slim profile and 5" (130 mm) speaker drivers, a first for Focal's home column speakers; Theva N°3, the timeless 3-way column speaker; and Theva N°3-D, the speaker that incorporates a transducer speaker on top for stunning Dolby Atmos® sound effects. Not forgetting Theva Center 2-way centre speaker for crisp, cinematic dialogue delivery and Theva Surround, the speaker that spatialises the sound.
Design and finish
The finishes are inherited from the Chora line, only even more refined. The enclosures have been renewed and are even more compact, while the additional front panels provide a perfect finish to make the products even more robust. Pure and elegant, the Black, Dark Wood and Light wood finishes enhance the speakers and bring style and sophistication to any room. Dark or light wood effects are available for the side panels, creating warmth.
The line is designed to fit well in both classic and modern interiors, combining beautifully with other materials such as metal, concrete, stone and more. The black finish offers a timeless and sophisticated style, bringing charm and character to any room. Finally, Focal has chosen screen-printed metal rings to frame the speaker drivers, ventilation has been placed at the rear to leave elegant front panels, and the bases and grilles are in perfect harmony with each model.
Speakers made in France for pure Hi-Fi sound
Focal's technology and expertise have come together to create this line. Made in France in Focal's workshops, all speaker drivers incorporate Slatefiber Technology, a unique cone made from recycled non-woven carbon fibres.
Known for reproducing a dynamic, rich and balanced sound, this cone has proven its worth across numerous products for the home, recording studios and even car audio systems.
Also made by Focal, the TNF tweeter delivers smooth, clear highs. With its outstanding performance, it was the obvious choice for the engineers who developed Theva. The speakers also feature tilt stands for spatial coherence Time Alignment, achieving a more listener-centric soundstage.
SMOOTH AND PRECISE TREBLE
The suspension that attaches the dome to the dome's stand is made of Poron, a shape-memory material. This suspension is derived directly from the renowned Utopia beryllium tweeter, reducing distortion threefold between 2000 and 3000 Hz, a range of high sensitivity to the ear. The spatialisation and low directionality of the inverted dome allow silky highs to be perceived from anywhere in the listening room.
THE PERFECT SOUND BALANCE
Focal's unique Slatefiber technology is based on the use of non-woven recycled carbon fibres sandwiched between two layers of a thermoplastic polymer. In their quest for perfection, Focal's engineers have chosen to use non-woven carbon fibres oriented in the same direction to improve stiffness and damping.
Manufactured in Focal's own workshops using state-of-the-art production facilities, this "slate-like" membrane provides greater stiffness and damping and is also lighter - the three keys to a good loudspeaker.
SLATEFIBER MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY
After more than four years of research and development, Focal is introducing in 2019 a new technology with exceptional characteristics: the Slatefiber membrane.
Manufactured in France, this membrane is characterised by a dynamic, rich and very balanced sound, especially in the mid-range. Its acoustic qualities and its unique "slate effect" make it a reference in High Fidelity in its price class.
A genuine composite membrane
The Slatefiber membrane is a composite cone made from non-woven recycled carbon fibres. Focal is the first brand in the audio industry to use recycled carbon fibres in its loudspeakers and a thermoplastic polymer. The acoustic qualities provided by the combination of these two materials are excellent, both in speed of sound and in rigidity and damping.
Stiffness
The carbon fibres themselves are unusually stiff. Moreover, because they are all oriented in the same direction, they further increase the stiffness of the speaker and therefore provide deeper bass.
Damping
The carbon fibres are oriented, but not woven, to ensure better damping. Thermoplastic polymer is placed between the fibres to bind them together and thus increase the damping.
Lightweight
During development, special attention was paid to the weight of the membranes in order to optimise their sensitivity: the carbon fibres are very light. Thus, in addition to the criteria of rigidity and damping, the Slatefiber membrane meets the criterion of lightness of the loudspeaker.
Exclusive Made in France technology
Like the Flax, Kevlar and W membranes, the Slatefiber membrane is manufactured entirely in the Focal workshops in Saint-Étienne.
In order to ally productivity, performance and manufacturing in France, Focal engineers have developed semi-automated industrial means for the manufacturing of the Slatefiber membrane.
