Ortofon Launches New SPU GTX S and SPU GTX E Cartridges: Tradition and Innovation for Vinyl Enthusiasts

Ortofon, a globally renowned brand known for its legacy in phonographic cartridge manufacturing, has announced the launch of two new models: the SPU GTX S and the SPU GTX E. These cartridges represent the perfect fusion of the classic SPU series' signature sound with cutting-edge technological innovations that ensure precise and immersive audio reproduction. Designed for vinyl enthusiasts, these new additions reinforce Ortofon’s commitment to excellence in analog playback.

Since its founding in 1918 by Axel Petersen and Arnold Poulsen under the name Electrical Phono Film Company, Ortofon has been a pioneer in sound recording and reproduction technologies. With over a century of innovation, the company has developed more than 300 moving coil (MC) cartridge models, establishing itself as a benchmark in the high-end audio industry. Its dedication to research and development has enabled continuous product evolution, ensuring unmatched sound quality.

Ortofon SPU GTX S: Classic Sound with a Spherical Stylus

The Ortofon SPU GTX S cartridge combines the classic tonal warmth of the SPU series with the latest audio innovations. With an output of 4 mV at 1 kHz, it delivers a clear and powerful signal, while its channel balance and 20 dB separation ensure precise stereo imaging.

Featuring a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz with minimal variation of ±3 dB, it offers faithful sound reproduction. Its impedance of 610 ohms and recommended capacitance between 150 and 600 pF allow for seamless integration with various systems. The optimal tracking force of 4 g (40 mN) extends stylus life and improves vinyl tracking.

The cartridge is equipped with a spherical stylus, ideal for smooth and detailed playback with a vintage touch. Additionally, its built-in MC step-up transformer enhances performance and reduces noise, allowing direct connection to amplifiers without the need for additional accessories.

For the first time in an SPU cartridge, its housing is made of fiberglass-reinforced copolymer, providing rigidity, stability, and low resonance. The high-purity OFC copper coil conductor enhances signal fidelity, while its robust 38 g design ensures durability.

Developed in collaboration with Lundahl Transformers, the SPU GTX series offers a hassle-free high-fidelity experience, combining sonic precision and top-tier construction.

Ortofon SPU GTX E: Precision with an Elliptical Stylus

The Ortofon SPU GTX E cartridge merges the rich sonic tradition of the SPU series with advanced technological innovations. Its high-precision elliptical stylus (8/18 µm) provides greater contact with the vinyl groove, improving tracking and sound fidelity.

With an output of 4 mV at 1 kHz, a channel balance below 1.5 dB, and 20 dB separation, it ensures well-balanced and detailed reproduction. Its frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a ±3 dB variation covers the entire audio spectrum, guaranteeing clarity and depth.

The cartridge has a lateral dynamic compliance of 10 µm/mN, allowing precise adaptation to groove variations. Its tracking capability at 315 Hz with 60 µm and a recommended tracking force of 4 g ensure stability and precision in vinyl playback.

Compatible with various systems, it features an internal impedance of 610 ohms, a recommended load of 47 kΩ, and capacitance between 150 and 600 pF. Additionally, it includes a built-in MC step-up transformer, optimizing performance without requiring external amplification.

Its fiberglass-reinforced copolymer body provides durability and low resonance, while the high-purity OFC copper conductor enhances signal quality. With a sturdy 38 g design and an elegant matte black finish, the Ortofon SPU GTX E is perfect for audiophiles seeking precision, warmth, and an exceptional listening experience.
