Ortofon SPU GTX S: Vintage Warmth with Modern Precision
The Ortofon SPU GTX S cartridge merges the best of both worlds, blending the rich musicality and characteristic warm tone of Ortofon's SPU series, a reference for decades, with the latest innovations in audio technology.
Experience the vintage warmth of vinyl with the SPU GTX S, featuring a spherical stylus. This common stylus shape, with its rounded tip, makes contact with the walls of the vinyl groove, delivering balanced, smooth, and natural sound.
The built-in MC step-up transformer ensures high performance and low noise, preserving the fidelity and clarity that define the SPU series.
Precision Engineering and Craftsmanship
The SPU GTX cartridges are handcrafted in Denmark by highly skilled technicians. Their monocoque shells are molded in a single piece using a fiberglass-reinforced copolymer, a material never before used in SPU cartridges. This ensures a stable, rigid, and low-resonance shell, allowing for greater precision in sound reproduction. The base is also molded from this material, encasing the motor in a robust, uniform design.
The SPU GTX S is a moving coil cartridge with a built-in step-up transformer, a fiberglass-reinforced housing, and a spherical diamond stylus. The SPU GTX E shares the same general configuration as the GTX S but is upgraded with an elliptical diamond for enhanced precision.
Built-In Step-Up Transformer
The SPU GTX series is designed for simplified setup without sacrificing sound quality. Ortofon collaborated with Lundahl Transformers to develop new step-up transformers for these cartridges. Thanks to this integrated transformer, the cartridges connect directly to any phono stage or amplifier, making them as user-friendly as a moving magnet cartridge while delivering the superior sound of a moving coil design.
