GRADO Signature S950: New Signature Headphones. High-End Sound in a Handcrafted Brazilian Walnut Structure
Grado Labs, internationally renowned for its award-winning headphones, presents its latest open-back model: the Signature S950. Following in the footsteps of the successful HP100 SE, this new headphone is the second member of the Signature line. Staying true to its tradition of using wood for housing construction, Grado introduces Brazilian walnut for the first time—a wood selected for its unique sonic properties. This choice gives the S950 a distinctive sound profile compared to the HP100 SE, which is built from machined aluminum and offers a more analytical sound.
With a lightweight yet durable design, the Signature S950 weighs only 395 grams, ensuring comfort and preventing listening fatigue during extended sessions. Each individually crafted housing features a unique wood grain, adding exclusivity to every unit. Brazilian walnut was chosen for its density and stability, preventing deformation due to temperature or humidity changes while ensuring balanced musical reproduction. Its harvesting follows sustainable practices to preserve the Amazonian ecosystem.
New Driver Technology
The Signature S950 incorporates a version of Grado’s advanced 52mm driver, originally designed for the award-winning Signature HP100 SE. This speaker has been developed to deliver detailed highs, smooth mids, and deep bass with minimal distortion, providing a harmonious and musically faithful sound.
The driver design includes a composite paper cone combined with a high-flux magnetic system made from rare-earth alloys. Additionally, the copper-coated aluminum voice coil optimizes dynamics and transient response, enhancing spatial perception and sound imaging quality.
While the Signature HP100 SE is prized for its precision and ability to reveal details in recorded music, the Signature S950 offers a more neutral and balanced sound, allowing for a relaxed and immersive listening experience.
Enhanced Headband
The Signature S950 features the newly designed headband introduced with the HP100 SE, aimed at providing comfort during long listening sessions. It includes 50% thicker padding than previous models and a stainless steel frame with height-adjustable rods for a personalized fit, reducing listening fatigue.
The gimbals are made from engraved aluminum alloy, while the stainless steel height rod enhances stability and limits housing rotation to 105 degrees, minimizing wear over time.
Detachable Cables and Customization Options
Following the trend of the Signature line, the S950 features detachable cables. The standard package includes the 6-foot Grado Signature Gold cable with a 6.35mm connector. This cable has been redesigned with a more flexible braided finish and improved insulation, reducing weight and making handling easier.
Each housing is connected via a 4-pin balanced mini XLR connector. In the future, optional cables with balanced 4-pin XLR and 4.4mm terminations, as well as different lengths, will be available to tailor the experience to the user’s preferences.
