Building on the circuitry used in the renowned 834 integrated amplifier, Tim de Paravicini has responded to the demand for a power amplifier with similar characteristics but more power, resulting in the 890 model. This new design incorporates EI's KT90 tubes, capable of delivering 70W in pure Class A, all in the same chassis as the 834. The KT90 tube, a recent innovation in the tube arena, brings together the virtues of the EL509 tube, used in several EAR amplifiers, but with the ability to generate high power and maintain it with great reliability. The use of two pairs of KT90 tubes per channel ensures that all the necessary and desirable power is delivered to the EAR 890 power amplifier.
This 890 power amplifier offers transformer-coupled balanced inputs and unbalanced RCA inputs, as well as an independent level control for each channel. In addition, it has the option of mono operation, providing 140W to virtually any speaker load. Build quality and finish are of the highest quality, as is characteristic of EAR products, with a thick, luxurious front panel, chrome-plated and polished to a mirror shine.
And what about the sound? All the EAR hallmarks are present: natural mids and treble, superb stereo imaging and, of course, ample and perfectly balanced bass.
