If a tube fails, Adaptive AutoBias will instantly put the amplifier into protection mode so that no parts can be damaged. A red LED will light in front of the tube that needs to be replaced. Just plug in another tube and listen. No guesswork. The use of amplifiers is not allowed. There is no need to remove the soldering iron or leave the amplifier in UPS.

CUSTOMIZED TOROIDAL POWER TRANSFORMERS.

Power transformers generate two types of noise, magnetic and acoustic. That is why toroidal power transformers are used in the best audio products. Compared to standard transformers, toroids radiate about 1/10 of the magnetic field that contaminates music and obscures details. Also, the absence of an air gap means that the toroids have an 8: 1 reduction in acoustic noise. Since transformers are the most expensive components of any audio product, manufacturers can even house cheaper C-core and EI-core transformers in an external power box with an umbilical cable instead of upgrading to an expensive toroid. The cost increase is significant, but PrimaLuna does not save costs. All PrimaLuna products use solid and encapsulated toroidal transformers. PrimaLuna transformers are encased in a metal casing and then encapsulated in a non-microphone resin to further reduce noise and protect the windings from moisture and deterioration forever.

CUSTOMIZED SUPER BANDWIDTH OUTPUT TRANSFORMERS.

Output transformers are the most important part of any tube amp. They determine how low the low reaches and how high the high end goes. 250 watts of power will not have top and bottom spread if the output transformers don't have the bandwidth. We use less power to extend the life of the tubes and bandwidth to give it a slam. Transformers are the most expensive components in an amplifier, so manufacturers save money by using commercially available units. PrimaLuna output transformers are custom designed, home wound, and massive. One of the reasons no other brand sounds like a PrimaLuna. "The flat tops and bottoms of these square waves correlate with the amplifier's extended low-frequency response; PrimaLuna's output transformers are of excellent quality." -John Atkinson of Stereophile magazine.

ADAPTIVE AUTOBIAS.

What most companies call Auto Bias is actually "Cathode Bias" - a commonly used method that is inexpensive to do, and often found in guitar amps, but also high-end 20,000-foot audio amps. Dollars. It reduces the available power of the amplifier and makes the tubes work hard, which means shorter life of the tubes and failures through "short circuits".

PrimaLuna's Adaptive AutoBias is truly smart technology that employs a series of sensors to monitor tubes and make adjustments seamlessly in real time. More importantly, it is the ONLY circuit of its kind that is truly "adaptive" in dealing with "tube pinch" at higher volumes, thereby reducing distortion by more than 50% and greatly extending tube life. Adaptive AutoBias is completely passive and is NOT in the signal path. The result is minimal or no maintenance, long tube life, and as little distortion as possible for amazing sound.

Adaptive AutoBias also provides unprecedented flexibility by allowing the use of almost any tube on the market today. It also has a fine adjustment switch for the EL-34 and KT88 / KT120 / KT150 tube types.

POINT-TO-POINT WIRING.

You spend a lot of money on interconnections. So why does the signal go directly from the RCA connectors or speaker terminals to circuit boards with copper traces so fine they can barely be seen? What's so special about it?

PrimaLuna uses point-to-point cabling in all of its products. The entire signal path, including resistors and capacitors, is carefully hand-wired with heavy gauge wires by craftsmen.

SMARTWATTS - LONGER PIPE LIFE.

The lifespan of the tubes is simply a matter of how hard the tubes are. That's all. The only way to extend the life of the tubes is to run them as close to zero as possible, making sure it is not so low that cross-distortion occurs. The life of a tube will depend on two things: Tension of the plate and the screen.

If the board and screen voltage is high, the valves are more likely to short circuit when the amplifier is turned on and cathode stripping occurs, greatly affecting the ability of the cathodes to spit electrons. Manufacturers that run out of tubes to increase their power will never tell you what voltages they use. They will say that it is "proprietary" as if it were a secret sauce. There is no such thing. But if they told you they used 575, 600, or even 625 volts, you probably wouldn't buy it. We proudly tell you that our tubes operate at only 417 volts for plates and displays.

PrimaLuna runs its output tubes with minimal dissipation without getting into crossover distortion. When you look at our amps, they provide less power from each tube. With the KT-120s as an example, a PrimaLuna will give you only 21 watts per tube. So with a couple of them you get 42 watts. That's a lot of power, but the demands per tube are a fraction of some manufacturers giving you 100 watts from a pair of KT-120's. It's a cheap way to get great power, and it's cheap. In fact, free. Getting more energy the right way is expensive. It requires larger transformers, plugs, wiring, resistors, capacitors, and the valves to do so. Which is exactly what PrimaLuna did. But we didn't stop there.

Read this carefully: Power has nothing to do with sound quality. Or a bass hit. You can buy a 200-watt receiver for $ 299, and it will even have surround sound. Do you think that for a minute it will sound better than a high-end 50 or 100-watt amp that costs $ 10,000? Of course not. Only first-time buyers think this way. Seasoned audiophiles know that in most listening sessions, maybe 10 watts of power are used.

OUR AMPLIFIERS ARE PERFECT. BUT YOUR SYSTEM MAY NOT BE.

Ask any seasoned tubehead what the most musical exit tube is and they will most certainly declare it EL34. Other amp manufacturers would love to use it. Only PrimaLuna, through our proprietary output transformer designs, can give you EL34 mid-range beauty with a high-end flair that lasts forever. And, the bass extension with so much slam, our amps are used to drive the subwoofers.

However, each system is different. What if you buy a speaker with a bass that overloads the room? Or is it too dark? Or too bright? What if you just want to have fun trying out the different sound colors from a vast palette of tubes? With the products of other manufacturers, you are stuck. They are a one trick pony. How are you going to fine tune your sound? Buy some different cables ?!

With PrimaLuna, you have a choice. Go for it. 6L6G, 6L6GC, 7581A, EL34, EL37, 6550, KT66, KT77, KT88, KT90, KT120, even the monstrous KT150. Future-proofed by design, PrimaLuna is compatible with NEW tube types that haven't even been thought of today.
