Ortofon 2M Black: True to the beat
The Ortofon 2M Black capsule is the flagship of the series and lives up to it with great success. The Shibata diamond gives you groove contact like nothing else. You can hear every little detail in the music from every part of the spectrum. Just as the artist wanted you to. For those who want to feel the artist's presence in the room when listening to their records.
Features:
The 2M Black capsule is adorned with a Shibata diamond whose slim, highly polished profile allows for an extremely wide contact area with the groove walls and ensures remarkably detailed reproduction across the entire spectrum, including even the highest frequency groove information. The 2M Black capsule uses a special enhanced motor, with split-pole pins with a silver-plated copper wire.
We have optimised the design to make it easier to mount the cartridge, and the weight and size to fit the most common turntables on the market today. The 2M series provides excellent compatibility when used in a variety of playback systems and with a wide variety of phono preamplifiers.

The 2M Premounted cartridge is a practical and elegant solution for our customers who want direct and easy mounting and replacement on their S-shaped arm. The quality of the SH-4 cartridge holder is robust and rigid, but the design emphasises a slim and delicate form factor. The strong and lightweight capsule holder has an ergonomic design with a long lifting finger that is easy to lift.

The 2M series is designed for precise and accurate retrieval of information in the groove of the vinyl record.
The 2M series is developed in conjunction with Danish industrial designer Møller Jensen Design, the same designer who designed the award-winning MC Jubilee and Kontrapunkt series. Inspired by the facets of a diamond, whose contours gracefully trace the grooves on the surface of a disc, 2M's appealing elegance establishes a great combination of form and function.
The name 2M was selected from a number of ideas. We wanted a modern name that was easy to pronounce and remember, so an alphanumeric name was chosen. 2M stands for MM, which is short for moving magnet.
Of course, the 2M capsule is not just another pretty face. It has been designed to the highest standards and is congruent with Ortofon's relentless commitment to providing the most accurate and clearest possible reproduction without colouration.
Each of the 2M Series capsules has its own individual sonic expression, and the five models together represent the set of five classic variations:
2M Mono SE, 2M Mono and 2M 78 are true mono capsules for playing mono vinyl records.
2M Red is a multi-purpose capsule that offers an open and dynamic sound with a slight touch of warmth
2M Blue adds more dynamics and resolution, sounds more open and reproduces more detail
2M Bronze adds even more detail and resolution, but in a very unbiased way that respects all the elements
2M Black is the best of the bunch, true to the beat with resolution and accurate information on every recording.
The 2M capsule series features Ortofon's signature split polar pins, an invention that allows moving magnet capsules to have a flat frequency response, as with a moving coil capsule. Split pole pins were invented by Ortofon and were originally introduced in the 500 Series and OM Super Series.
