REGA Aria MK3. MM/MC Phono Preamp
Housed in our latest format half the width of the previous model, and custom-designed to give it a new look to match the new range, this phono preamp features two completely separate high-performance phono stages. A dedicated, fully adjustable moving coil capsule preamp stage and a moving magnet capsule preamp stage. Each stage is designed and developed to maximise the potential of your vinyl system while remaining easy to use and set up.
Note: All Aria MK3 MC preamp settings are factory preset for all Rega MC cartridge models.
Technology
The Aria phono preamp is an "all analogue amplifier" with no digital control circuitry. The all-aluminium housing protects the internal circuitry from any stray RF interference signals. Our designers have avoided including superfluous devices as they obstruct the signal path and degrade sound quality. The Aria incorporates many innovative design ideas including a self-adjusting servo control to keep the MC input circuit at its optimum, compensating for any variations in ambient or operating temperature.
Both stages have their own input connectors and input pre-amp circuits. This has allowed us to design tailor-made input circuits for each type of capsule without compromising sound quality. Signal switching is done at high level and low impedance (via relays) ensuring that there is no signal degradation.
Moving Coil (MC) stage design and features
The input to the MC stage uses parallel-connected, low-noise FET (field-effect transistors) configured as a compound pair. The use of FET transistors ensures that no bias current flows in the turntable's capsule coil so as not to disturb the delicate magnetic geometry of the capsule. The MC stage input has the ability to select a resistive input load from 70 ohms to 400 ohms and a capacitive load from 1000 pF to 4200 pF. The input sensitivity can be changed by 6 dB via switches located on the rear panel.
Moving Magnet (MM) stage design and features
The input to the MM stage uses low noise bipolar input transistors also configured as a composite pair. There are two separate power supplies for each channel and secondary power supplies for each of the low-noise input circuits. Nichicon FG electrolytic capacitors have been used in critical positions in all power supplies. Polypropylene capacitors have been used in the signal path and equalisation networks. Discrete circuitry is used throughout the signal path to ensure total control of the circuit design.
