QUALITON Step-Up Transformer.
In January 2016, Audio-Hungary Ltd.'s impedance matching transformer, developed specifically for moving capsules, was launched, and before that, in November 2015, this Step-Up was officially unveiled.
This passive device called Qualiton MC features a glossy polished stainless steel or black outer casing, quite aesthetic. Inside this casing, a pair of transformers is placed. Each transformer features a permalloy cover and the special winding, placed on the Bakelite coil, makes it truly unique. The high bandwidth is guaranteed by the use of quality winding and a special plastic, which offers low distortion transmission of the signal components, fed to the input of the corresponding transformer. The nominal amplification of the device is +24 dB. Having mentioned the input of the impedance matching unit: when designing this device, we looked for the shortest possible signal paths, and between the input and output RCA sockets there is a highly accessible ground point.
Basically, the position, most appropriate for the real cartridge, can be chosen between three ranges of source impedance: 2-10 Ohm; 10-50 ohms. This solution proved to be much better than so-called "universal" solutions that use parallel switches and resistors. Important to know: as a special service of our house, the Qualiton MC device can be adjusted to any type of capsule indicated by the customer at the factory, as necessary.
