REGA PHONO MC MK4. MC phono preamplifier
The Phono MC is an exceptionally high quality MC phono stage designed to maximise the potential of any MC cartridge. Although specifically to complement the latest Rega range of moving coils, you will find a full adjustment capability for loading is available through conveniently placed dip switches on the rear panel with two different gain settings located on the rear panel making the MC Phono compatible with most low output MC cartridges.
The MC Phono has been designed to be efficient, easy to use and, above all, to play music. The Fono MC uses the Linear Systems low noise LSK389 FET in a fully discrete input stage where low noise and linearity are of vital importance to get the best out of an MC cartridge. Due to the high input impedance of the FET, the loading effects of the amplifier circuit are miniscule and do not affect the performance of the cartridge.
A MUSE operational amplifier is used in the RIAA equalisation amplifier. Polypropylene capacitors have been used in the signal path and RIAA equalisation circuits. There is a selectable input loading for resistance and capacitance along with two different gain settings located on the rear panel, making the MC Phono compatible with most low output MC cartridges.
The aesthetic design of the Fono MC was as important as the quality of its electrical capabilities, so it benefits from the same aluminium case as the Rega TTPSU and Fono MM amplifier, giving it a design that offers a familiar feel and also brings it in line with its larger lustrious siblings. The new Fono MC circuit was the result of design work carried out on the Aria phono amplifier.
The Fono drive stage is designed to amplify the signal from a moving coil cartridge to a level that can be fed into a 200mV line level input on a standard hi-fi amplifier.

LOAD SETTINGS FOR ADJUSTABLE MC STAGES
Input sensitivity (for 200 mV output): 4 offs = 133 uV / 4 on = 67 uV
Input load resistance: 1 and 2 off = 400 Ω / 1 on = 100 Ω / 2 on = 150 Ω / 1 and 2 on = 70 Ω
Input load capacitance: 3 off = 1000 pF / 3 on = 4300 pF / Gain (at 1 kHz) / 4 off = 63.5 dB / 4 on = 69.5 dB
Max. input level (at 1 kHz): 4 off = 6.7 mV / 4 on = 3.4 mV
