The Wellfleet is an affordable, high-end model in Sumiko's Rainier "collection" that sits just below the iconic Amethyst, the brand's current benchmark for moving-magnet pickup cartridges. Based on the design of the award-winning Moonstone, the Wellfleet improves on the latter with the introduction of a suspension specifically designed to optimise the performance of a 0.3x0.7 mm Nude elliptical stylus, while utilising the generation system and anti-resonant treated chassis common to all models in the Rainier range. The Wellfleet stylus has been extremely polished to eliminate any deformation of the shank and tip. With Sumiko's new structure for its new moving magnet capsule, the excess mass in the stem is eliminated to further reduce the mass of the reading tip, resulting in a faster, more direct and more precise response to the movement of the stylus by the cantilever (aluminium) and the magnet (Alnico). Sumiko's new pickup capsule comes complete with a feature that many enthusiasts will appreciate: the flexibility offered by its internal signal generator, which allows owners of the brand's Olympia and Moonstone models to upgrade to the Wellfleeet with a simple stylus change.
