EAR Yoshino 869. Integrated Tube Amplifier. 2 x 15 W

The 869 integrated amplifier, successor to the 859, is positioned within the low-power amplifier segment in "single-ended" triode configurations, a style that gained great popularity in the 1990s and is still admired today.

For the development of the 859, Tim de Paravicini decided to move away from conventional designs, which commonly use classic tubes like the 300B, 211, or 2A3, and opted for his preferred output tubes, the EL519s. Although these tubes are normally connected as pentodes, Tim innovated a new configuration that made them function as triodes. He called this technique "Enhanced Triode Mode" (ETM), drawing an analogy with MOSFETs in "Enhancement Mode." This modification improved linearity, increased power, and provided greater reliability, which led the 859 to become an iconic model, internationally recognized and awarded for its quality. The sound of the 859 combines the clarity and transparency of traditional tubes with modern advantages of low noise and greater detail, positioning it prominently against its competitors.

However, there is always room for improvement, and no one better than its creator to achieve it. Thus, the 869 was born: retaining the foundation of the 859's output topology but with a slight revision in the output transformer and an optimized input stage with an additional tube for signal control. These small adjustments resulted in a modest yet noticeable increase in output power, reaching 15W per channel, as well as better control of operating conditions, regardless of tube specifications. This translates to greater stability and consistency, especially as the tubes age or are replaced. As for the sound, the 869 offers the same as the 859 but with a significant improvement in power and durability.

Additionally, responding to user requests, the input options were expanded, allowing the amplifier to be used directly as a stage, without needing to use the input selector.
