Following the success of the Icon Audio PS1, which was awarded "5 Globes" by Hi-Fi World (03/2008) for its exceptional sound quality, we have taken a step further with the development of the new PS3.
This model has been designed without cost limitations, aiming to overcome the weaknesses of traditional designs while maintaining Icon Audio’s "All Valve" philosophy and delivering extraordinary performance.
What Makes the PS3 Special?
High-end amplification demands a superior power supply. To achieve this, we started with a large transformer and a full-wave rectification EZ80 tube, followed by two high-capacity chokes, ensuring ultra-smooth power delivery.
Additionally, the power supply is regulated using a low-resistance 5687 tube, controlled by an ECC83, providing extremely precise voltage and guaranteeing sonic purity and exceptional performance.
The preamplifier features a "double cascode" design, utilizing two tubes in a specialized combination to achieve high gain with minimal noise. This significantly enhances sound definition and spatiality, while maintaining the warmth and natural tonal balance that characterized the PS1.
For greater flexibility, the PS3 offers two inputs, including a moving coil (MC) option with hand-wound MC transformers crafted by Icon Audio.
On the output stage, we have implemented the legendary 6SN7, a tube introduced in 1941, widely regarded as one of the best-sounding tubes in high-fidelity audio.
