The idea of creating a limited edition of the Emerald columns according to the musical preferences of Mr. Wojtek Pacuły (editor-in-chief and magician of “HighFidelity“) was established more than a year ago, exactly in 2015. These columns have been manufactured according to with a design based on Pylon Audio's mid-bass transducers. This midrange driver is better and more nuanced, requiring a better “tune” to show its full benefits.
The works were carried out in the initial period when the standard modality of the Emerald was designed, as was the case with the entire structure. This means that the measurement of the cabin concepts, the transducer, the simulations and the construction were based on different types of cabins with the aim of knowing the strengths of the electroacoustic transducers for a given application. The “fine tuning” process of the PSW 17.8 CA loudspeaker took considerable time, in the transition between 2015/2016 about 70 different prototypes of the transducer were produced in the factory. Loudsoft software was used when designing the loudspeaker, without their design work this would have taken much longer. After adjustment in terms of phase and amplitude, the resonating chamber and the initial alignment the standard listening cycle began. As with other system builds from other brands they were compared to another sound offered by Pylon Audio, which in the case of the Emerald HF meant monitoring it alongside the Diamond 25 and 28 line. In addition, the set was compared to various home systems In different situations, this type of tests are carried out in terms of recording the versatility of the kit and the possibility of its cooperation with different electronic components.
In the final wording of the Emerald HF they have been inspired by the excellent M40.1 monitors from Harbeth, which are Mr. Wojtek Pacuły's reference system. The first premise when supervising the British monitors led them to modify the mid-bass speaker; the changes that took place were within the structure of the speaker coil. In the new version it has been possible to obtain a fuller and better smoothed sound without resonances at the end of the band, processed by the PSW 17.8 CA loudspeaker.
Sound preferences of Mr. Wojtek Pacuły:
“(…) For me in sound, the most important issue is color saturation, dynamics and liquidity (coherence). Everything else flows with these elements and their application, resolution and selectivity are necessary. But I'm not looking for the same resolution and selectivity as that doesn't make sense. I am looking for a truth in music and emotions that will be with me in an elevated way. If you sit in front of the columns, you may only feel curiosity, perhaps even respect, but if nothing lights up in me, it means that something is missing in them, in my mind (...)”.
