The iP5 Mirage is a flat panel that functions as a Distributed Mode Speaker (DML), a technology from NXT ™ that has allowed us to create a floor mounted acoustic tile to fit a standard suspended ceiling. The end result of this is a safe, reliable and natural sounding audio solution that seamlessly integrates into your architectural environment.

This exciting new technology has some unique benefits over all cone speakers; These benefits are related to the fundamental way in which the sound waves of a distributed mode panel propagate in the environment. - Extremely wide dispersion, to allow a single iP5 to cover large areas.

- Panel sound reacts constructively with room boundaries, making it the preferred speaker in difficult acoustic environments.

What is different about a Tannoy DML panel?

It is important for those who specify and install systems to understand that flat panel speakers vary in the same way as voice coil speakers - there are always good and bad engineering solutions to technical problems. At Tannoy we have dedicated our considerable R&D resources to the issue of mounting a vibrating plate on a lightweight roof rack, and have used the best materials available to solve these complex engineering problems. The vibrating surface of the iP5 is itself constructed of aerospace materials to provide the best combination of stiffness, weight, and pure audio output.

This material is vibrated by a total of 4 specially developed drivers to obtain the most natural sound and the highest levels of sound pressure. There are two versions: the iP5 Mirage, designed for European ceiling grille applications, and the iP5 Mirage 2 x 2, sized for North American ceiling grilles.
