With so much focus on network playback and downloads, it might be easy to overlook the humble CD. But not for Naim. After all, the CD remains by far the world's most popular music format and, for millions of music fans, their CD collection remains the heart and soul of their valuable music libraries. This impressive successor to the CD5i brings great benefits to users, while maintaining the functionality and ease of use of a classic player. The CD5si has been designed to be best-in-class, incorporating real technological advances to deliver a music experience that can be enjoyed from start to finish.
The CD5si's name only differs from its predecessor by one letter, but beneath the surface you'll find many significant improvements and advances, each aimed at extracting more music and enjoyment from every CD. For starters, the CD5si's DAC chip has been upgraded to the Burr Brown PCM1793, a device very similar to that used in the high-end NDX network player. The CD5si also benefits from a more stable clock, higher voltage power supply rails, a revised analogue filter design and new CD transport and optics. Of course, all these changes are due to our relentless pursuit of reliability, sound quality and performance. The benefit of each change was confirmed by many hours of listening.
However, just as change can bring improvements, it often doesn't hurt to stay true to what works well, so the CD5si retains the best features of its predecessor and the Naim hallmarks. Naim's typical CD tray, proprietary CD transport, laser reading and digital error correction software, discrete analogue output electronics and non-magnetic chassis construction help ensure that the electronics inside can extract the maximum possible from each CD.
