The MC Diamond is a new pickup cartridge based on the moving coil (MC) operating principle. Befitting its status as the absolute benchmark product, it offers the cutting-edge technology, unrivaled performance and unrivaled precision expected from the century-old Ortofon, being equipped with a titanium body, an optimized magnet system, a stylus plus a diamond cantilever and new rubber suspension.
Hence, the MC Diamond should be considered as much more than a simple update of an existing High End component, as it allows reaching new levels of excellence in the restitution of the harmonic and spatial subtleties contained in vinyl records.
Going into the technical details of this formidable transducer, let us first highlight that its body is manufactured with the help of the so-called "Selective Laser Melting" (SLM), a process perfected by Ortofon that allows precise control of the density of said Body. The second key engineering element of the MC Diamond is a magnet system that combines selected materials, optimized geometry and exceptional consistency to provide unprecedented performance.
As far as the critical stylus is concerned, the Ortofon MC Diamond is equipped with the Replicant 100, a diamond stylus developed by Ortofon that is distinguished by a long and narrow contact surface that replicates with extreme fidelity the cut original factory vinyl.

Newly upgraded rubber suspension
For the new MC Diamond cartridge, Ortofon's Wide Range Damping (WRD) system has been redesigned to include an improved rubber suspension, specially developed in-house.
The WRD system was originally introduced on the MC 20 Mk II in 1979 and was also later used on the MC A90, MC Windfeld, Xpression, MC Anna, MC Anna Diamond and MC Century cartridges. In this system, a small, heavy platinum disk is sandwiched between two rubber buffers, both with different properties. This ensures not only exceptional tracking performance, but also creates perfect damping across the entire frequency spectrum. Due to this, distortion and resonance are practically completely eliminated.
The new formula of the rubber compound is based on the highly efficient nanofiller Multi Wall Carbon Nano Tube (MWCNT). The new MWCNT-based compound offers desirable mechanical properties, allowing optimal interaction between compliance and damping, which improves stability and reproduction and ensures unrivaled sound quality.
Capsule body
The MC Diamond cartridge body is made from titanium using our custom Selective Laser Fusion (SLM) technique. This technique allows precise control of body density, providing extremely high internal damping and resulting in significantly reduced vibrations and improved sound quality.
Magnetic motor system
The MC Diamond cartridge's magnetic system combines select materials, optimized geometry and unmatched consistency to deliver unmatched performance. Together with the non-magnetic armature, the result is highly accurate, vivid audio reproductions defined by nearly limitless dimensionality.
Replicant Diamond 100
The Ortofon MC Diamond cartridge uses the Ortofon Replicant 100 diamond. This Line Contact type stylus is distinguished by a narrow and long contact surface, as close as possible to the original cut stylus. This ensures the most accurate reproduction, the lowest distortion, and an extended frequency range.
NB needle guard
The stylus guard provided for the MC Diamond cartridge is designed to be easily replaced and removed without risk of contact with the fragile stylus assembly. To prevent accidental damage to the stylus or cantilever, mount the included stylus guard to the cartridge whenever the cartridge is not in use. The needle guard must also be placed during capsule mounting or removal.
Diamond cantilever
The MC Diamond cartridge uses a solid diamond cantilever which, in combination with the Ortofon Replicant 100 diamond, offers extreme transparency, speed and responsiveness beyond any other combination. A solid diamond cantilever provides the best possible interface between the stylus and the armature, due to its hardness and crystalline structure. The improvements found in the use of a Diamond cantilever have redefined the limits of analog playback, presenting greater internal detail, subtlety and depth than ever before.
